Socializing during the journey

Scared to have a social life while on your journey? Don't be!

Summer is here, and vacations, barbecues, weddings, brunch, lunch, and dinner dates are all super popular. You may feel a little iffy about socializing because you don't want to indulge. You may even be afraid that you will enjoy it so much that you will overindulge. YOU WILL NOT LIVE LIKE THIS! This goes for holidays as well.

Take it from me, learning discipline is the best thing I could have done for myself. I, too, was afraid to go out and have fun because I felt like I was pressured to eat a little of this and drink a little of that. You are in control of your journey. You must learn MODERATION. You will indeed come across a delicious food truck; you may be at DisneyWorld and see a Turkey Leg (so delish btw). Do not torture yourself. Pair your discipline with moderation. You are not on this journey just to live in fear of starvation.

When you know that you have events and cool vacays coming up, try a few things to prepare yourself:

Plan your plans!: Google different places around your destination and see what options they have available. Look at the menu and plan your meals ahead of time. If you are going to be dining at someone's residence, politely let them know of your restrictions. It is easy to avoid temptation when you plan ahead as you have a game plan already.

Remember your alternatives: We all know by now about those pesky empty calories, right? So skip out on the fried foods and have it baked instead. If you love pizza, request cauliflower crust. Instead of a soda, try sparkling water with a lemon, lime, or both. Never forget your alternatives. They are a lifesaver.

DIY: When all else fails, bring your own food. When I went on vacay, I brought my meal prep. Let me tell you it was the best decision ever. We took a road trip to Florida, and while my kids ate whatever they saw, I found a microwave at each stop and warmed my meal prep. I did the same thing in our hotel suite. I enjoyed food with everyone else, and I didn't feel left out. What I did feel was accomplished.

Food has become the most popular thing in life. It doesn't have to be a bad thing; you just have to know how to take control.
